CW4, Stanley W. Payne, Ret. RA, aged 90 passed away peacefully at Hospice and Community Care in Rock Hill, SC on 2/28/2022. Stanley was a decorated veteran who served in the Korean and Viet Nam wars. He was honorably retired in 1974 with a total of 25 years of service to his country.
Stanley was born on December 6, 1931 in Gallia County Ohio to his parents Clyde and Mabel Payne. After moving to Marion, Ohio and attending Harding High School, Stanley decided to fudge his age and join the Ohio State Guard at the age of 15. He also served in the Ohio National Guard and then joined the Army as his career. He was mainly stationed at Fort Belvoir, VA and Fort Bragg, NC with an overseas assignment in Germany. Stanley also served in Occupied Japan, Korea, Laos, and Viet Nam.
Stanley married Rita Lyon, his wife of 67 years, on September 18, 1953. They lived the Army life and called many different places home. After his retirement, Stanley and Rita settled in Indianapolis, IN where he continued work with White Arts and Moore Langen Printing. With his final retirement they stayed in Indianapolis until Rita’s passing and Stanley moved down to Rock Hill, SC.
His joy was his church and working with the Chinese ministry of said church. Family was also a major priority in his life.
Stanley was predeceased by his parents Clyde and Mable, his sister Betty Dorfe, and his wife Rita L. Payne. He is survived by his sisters Frances Conley and Linda Snyder, nieces and nephews, his daughter Kathleen Benites, his son Kim Payne and wife Becky, his granddaughter Jessica Smith and husband Wayde, and 3 great grandchildren.
He was well loved and he loved well.
Flowers can be sent to Edward’s Funeral Service Hughes-Allen Chapel, Marion Ohio. There will be a time of visitation on Sunday, March 6 from 3:00-5:00pm with the funeral on Monday at 11:00am at the funeral home. Burial to follow at Marion Cemetery with full Military Honors.
