Shirley Zana Mercer Frank, born February 28, 1933, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2020. She will be greatly missed by her family. She was the loving wife for 69 years to Herman C. Frank, who survives her and cherished her. After raising their children, they enjoyed traveling extensively to Australia, Spain, Hawaii and most of the other 50 states.
Shirley was the matriarch of her family. Born and raised in Dover, Ohio, she was the oldest of five and helped often with her sisters and brothers. She cared for her mother and mother-in-law with dedication, while still managing to love and care for her husband and children. She worked full-time before it was acceptable for women of her generation - for many years at Swink Advertising in Marion, Ohio. She had a wicked sense of humor; loved movies with subtitles; and, was an amazing, creative cook.
Shirley is also survived by her children, Steven C. Frank (Loretta), Susan V. Hodges (Marc), Michael B. Frank (Chris) and Mary Frank. She leaves behind four grandchildren; Keith R. Frank, Katherine S. Esterline, Jessica A. Walker, and Evan M. Frank. She was blessed with five great-grandchildren; Ava, Hudson and Harlow Esterline and Gavin and Owen Walker.
The family would like to thank the caregivers who meant so much to Shirley; Debbie Breeding, Kathy Postlewait, Amber Crane and the staff of Capital City Hospice.
A memorial service will not be held. If you would like to make a donation in Shirley’s name, please consider Capital City Hospice.
Arrangements entrusted to Edwards Funeral Service in Marion.
