Rutheda Piatt

Rutheda "Goggy" Piatt, 95, of Marion passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at Avita Galion hospital after recent health complications.

Born November 13, 1926 in Marion, she was the daughter of Walter and Ida (Waltimyer) Ward.

She is survived by her daughter, Becky Carriger of Galion; son Clint (Joyce) Piatt of Marion; two grandchildren, Shane Piatt, Brandi (John) Maynard; five great-grandchildren, Alex, Kristen, Gregg, Hannah, and Nautica; two great great-grandchildren, Jacob and Raleigh.

Goggy was preceded in death by her mother and father, (Walter and Ida) and four brothers, Richard, Darrell, Byron, and Carl.

She retired from Galion Dresser where she held many roles such as constructing the wiring harnesses for road graders and helped to assemble them as well. Her favorite part was the mechanical work she did on heavy equipment.

Goggy loved to watch a good western and always wished she was living back in the pioneer days. She also enjoyed reading westerns as well as reading cookbooks. She loved trying out new recipes. She adored watching the hummingbirds through her window from her chair. Goggy was a simple, "no-frills" lady who loved her family. No matter how long your visit with her was, she'd always say, "come back when you can stay longer!" She was a kind soul who would help you in any way she could.

The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff at Millcreek in Galion. It truly felt like home to her. She was so proud to call her family and let them know she was just voted in as "president of the residents."

Please join the family for calling hours from 12 PM to 2 PM at Edwards Funeral Service Hughes-Allen Chapel, 318 Mt. Vernon Ave on Monday September 26. The service will immediately follow at the funeral home.
