Ronald “Ronnie” D. Rawlins, of Marion, went to be with the Lord on November 17, 2024. He was 70 years old.
Ronnie was born in Oak Hill, Ohio on July 27, 1954, to the late Lewis and Frances Rawlins. He was the youngest of 10 children. After moving to Marion in 1969, Ronnie attended Marion Harding High School. He worked as a laborer in his younger years and later in the auction industry. On October 8,1994, Ronnie married the love of his life, Joanne (McGlothlin) Rawlins, who preceded him in death on December 4, 2014. He was deeply saddened by the loss of his wife and has looked forward to the day when they could be together once again.
Many folks in Marion knew Ronnie. He would often be spotted traveling around downtown on his motorized wheelchair, smoking a cigar outside Certified on Center Street or drinking a cup of coffee at McDonald’s on Main. He enjoyed the music of Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash and prided himself on his collection of their music and memorabilia. He also enjoyed watching westerns and finding treasures at the Goodwill or Flea Market. Ronnie had a sparky spirit and a quick-witted sense of humor. To truly know him was to truly love him; and he will be deeply missed by many.
Ronnie is survived by his children Joyce Rawlins, Elvis Rawlins, Kathleen Rawlins, Amanda Towne and Kevin Sharp; his stepchildren Jennifer McGlothlin, Kellie (Justin) Rush and Lori (Norman) Phillips: sisters Connie Miller, Brenda Rawlins and Linda Gyor; brothers Eddie (Cathy) Rawlins and Roy Rawlins; 23 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; and one special nephew, Jeff Rawlins.
In addition to Ronnie’s parents and wife, he was proceeded in death by three sisters, Wanda Lee Catherine “Katie” Rawlins, Barbara Hommes and Shirley Miller; and one brother, Robert Rawlins.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, November 22, 2024, at 11am at Pleasant Cemetery with Pastor Pamela Lamb-Hart officiating. A lunch will follow at noon at the VFW located at 961 N. Main St. in Marion. The family would ask those attending to wear black to celebrate Ronnie’s love and passion for music, especially Johnny Cash.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a charity that Ronnie always supported.
Finally, Ronnie’s family would like to thank Heartland Hospice and Embassy of Marion for their care and support. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Jen with Heartland Hospice and Rebeckah with Embassy of Marion for the extra love and kindness that they showed Ronnie.
