Melody Star Speakman

On Thursday, August 4, 2022, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Melody Star Speakman, age 69, passed away at ProMedica Nursing Home in Marion, Ohio.

She was born on December 13, 1952, to Stanley E. and Betty J. (Saunders) Long.

When she was young, she had a love for horses. Her favorite being a pony named Casey. She enjoyed spending time at her grandparents’ house and travelling all over with grandparents and horses. She was a barrel racer and a graduate of River Valley High School in 1971.

On February 17, 1973, she marred Steven C. Speakman (Bubba). Melody and Steven went on to have 3 children.

Melody enjoyed spending time fishing at Lake Erie. She also enjoyed spending time camping in their camper for many years.

Her home and family were her pride and joy.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 49 years, Steven C. Speakman, Sr.; her children, Amy Ray ( Danny Murray), Steven Jr. (Jill), and Scott (Stacey); grandchildren, Blake Ray, Lexa Ray, Kayla Speakman, Scott Speakman II, Samantha Speakman; her sister, Kimberly Comeaux (Ricky); her niece, Crystal Crissinger; uncle, George (Jane) Long, sisters-in-law; Georgie George, Carol Lewis, Helen Winterowd (Steve), Barbara Speakman, Francis Speakman; brother-in-law, Don Wilson and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved grandparents, Delbert and Viola Saunders, her parents, Stanley E. and Betty J. Long, sister, Laura J. Starcher and a nephew, Shawn R. Crissinger.

Calling hours will be from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Tuesday August 9, 2022, at Edwards Funeral Service 318 Mt. Vernon Ave in Marion where the funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. with Pastor Brett Gleespen. Burial will follow at Chapel Heights.
