Maude Virginia "Jenny" Schofield

March 27, 1938 — May 8, 2024

Marion

Maude Virginia “Jenny” Schofield of Marion passed away May 8, 2024, at Embassy of Marion after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Jenny was born on March 27, 1938, in Hartsville, SC, even though her birth certificate says March 29. The building housing her, and many other people’s birth certificates, was destroyed by fire; when an aunt went to get the new birth certificate, she mistakenly gave her birthday as the 29th.

She was the daughter of Wilbur T. Osborne and his first wife Christina who both precede her in death. On November 7, 1942, Wilbur married Nellie Combs of Darfork, KY, who became and was always considered “Mom.”

Jenny attended Harding High School but didn’t graduate. She completed her GED (which she was very proud of) while working and after all her kids were raised and on their own.

In August 1953, she married Larry Edwards of Marion, while he was serving in the U.S. Navy, who precedes her in death, and they had 4 children. In September 1963, she married Don Schofield, previously of Rochester, NY, who survives, and they had 2 daughters, Dawn (Jerry) Leydens of Marion and Dee (Rob) Beyer of Gambier, OH.

Jenny was an accomplished seamstress, cake decorator, crocheter, and wonderful cook who loved to cook, share many treats with others, and teach what she knew. She learned auto mechanics, blueprint reading, and even belly dancing. She worked for Abbott & Company as a quality control technician until they closed in 1983 and later retired from Whirlpool. She also drove to Lewis Center for years to make cheer uniforms. She loved bingo, reading, sci fi movies and shows, crossword and word search puzzles.

Jenny is preceded in death by her parents, her son Ricky Edwards, one grandson Jacob Greenawalt, her sisters Clara Streng and Charlotte Osborne, and brother William Osborne.

She is survived by a sister Mary Bails, two brothers Manuel (Tina) Osborne of Marion and Marion (Nug) Osborne of Columbus. Also surviving are her children Eileen (Ray) Bullock of Alpine, TX, Roger (Kathy) Edwards, Elaine (Jay) Greenawalt, Dawn (Jerry) Leydens all of Marion and Dee (Rob) Beyer of Gambier, along with 7 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Jenny loved her extended family and was always accommodating and generous.

In Lieu of flowers, please make a donation, in her name, to the charity of your choice.

The family would like to thank Tranquility Hospice and the staff at Embassy of Marion for their loving care of their mom.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
