Mary Irene Taylor Steele, born May 21, 1925 in New Castle, Pennsylvania, passed away January 6, 2015 at Sterling House of Marion. In 1947 she married Jack Steele with whom she had two daughters, Connie (Jim) Schaefer and Pattie (Jim) Henkel. In 1962 she and her family moved to Marion, Ohio where she lived the rest of her life. Mary Irene was a talented bridge player, she taught many others the game over the years and was very proud of the many trophies she was awarded. Music and dancing were always a joy to her. She loved to quilt and left each member of her family with a treasured handmade quilt. Throughout her life, she was an avid reader and she maintained a fine collection of books about history. Probably her greatest pleasure was traveling to casinos with her sister. Her husband Jack preceded her in death in 1971. She is survived by her two daughters and by five grandchildren, Melissa Schaefer, Lara Schaefer (Bill Bergmann), Lynne Schaefer, Erin (Troy) Chapman, and Adam (Niamh Lynch) Chill; five great grandchildren, Kyle Chapman, Morgan Chapman, Oscar Bergmann, Sam Chill and Mary Chill; one sister, Faith Evanoski; and three brothers, Joe Taylor, Bill Taylor and Pat Taylor. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Vincent De Paul Society. -
