Emblem

Lawrence “Larry” E. Cornelius, 88, of Caledonia, Ohio died peacefully at Marion General Hospital surrounded by his family on February 10, 2025.

Born on August 19, 1936, Larry is preceded in death by his parents Lawrence Cornelius and Mary (Williams-Cornelius) Chapman of Marion, and his brother Charles Cornelius. Larry attended Marion Harding. In May of 1957 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort George G. Meade Maryland. Larry was honorably discharged in 1963.

On June 24, 1962, Larry married Martha “Marty” Pruitt of Marion. Together they raised two sons, Vincent Eugene and Vance Edward Cornelius. Prior to Marty’s death in May of 2014 the couple had been married one month shy for their 52nd anniversary. Those who knew the Cornelius family knew that dogs were an important part of their lives. They were reputable AKC breeders of the area and provided countless families with beloved pets as well as many show quality dogs.

Larry worked for Tecumseh Products Company for 22 years until the plant closed in 1984. From there he worked as a delivery driver for Universal Motor Parts, Napa Auto Parts, Sherman Williams Company, and finally, Ohio Auto Kolor. There wasn’t an auto shop in the area that “Corn” didn’t know.

On the golf course “Corn” made many lifelong friends. Larry will definitely be remembered for his passion for golf. The highlight of his game happened on July 21, 1991, with a hole-in-one on Hole #4 at Green Acres Golf Course. As a loyal member of the American Legion 584, the 162, and the Moose Lodge 889, “Corn” was always known to drop in to sign-up, visit with the boys, and have a cold one.

Larry is survived by his sons Vincent Cornelius (Lorena Medina) of Columbus, Vance (Kimberly) Cornelius of Marion, granddaughter Jessica Cornelius, and great-grandson Dorrance “Jay” Hill IV.
