Janet M. Palm, age 83, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2020 at DeWolfe Place in Marion, Ohio, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on February 12, 1937 in Sprague, West Virginia to the late Harry and Nora (Smith) Triggs.
Her family moved to Beckley, West Virginia, in the late 1930’s. Loved by staff and classmates alike, she developed her passion for education and learning while attending the Woodrow Wilson High School. Beckley was also where she would meet her future husband Michael Palm. Together over the years, they would share her life-long love of travel, camping and reading.
Janet and Michael were married on July 31, 1955. They both accepted positions at Curtiss-Wright and moved to Clearfield, Pennsylvania. After several years, they moved to Marion in 1959, where Michael took an engineering position at Marion Power Shovel and Janet took time off to start their family.
In support of her children, Janet stayed active with the schools, serving as PTA President for their elementary school. Eventually, she completed an education degree from the Ohio State University, obtained a teaching certificate and taught in the Marion City Schools for 8 years. There, she was able to share her love of books and story-telling by specializing in reading education.
She also stayed active in the community, most notably donating her time and expertise for 20 years with the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program in Marion.
Janet is survived by her loving husband: Michael M. Palm; children Dr. Kathleen Palm of Portland, Oregon, Michael S. Palm of Chicago, Illinois; brothers David Triggs, Michael Triggs, Richard Triggs; sister Linda Porter; and four grandchildren.
