Ethel Campbell Cross, age 78, of Marion passed away early on the morning of July 25, 2014 at the home of her daughter; Ella Reese. She was born November 14, 1935, to Mr. Wince Nelson Sr. and Mattie Campbell in Camden, Alabama. Ethel was one of twelve children, a dedicated mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and confidant to all who knew her. Her mother; Mattie Campbell, father; Wince Nelson and brothers; Earl Campbell, Charlie Campbell, Jimmie Lee Nelson, Willie Lee Nelson, Bosie Nelson, Ocie Lee Nelson, sister; Cassie Mae Frye and great-grandson; Keion Peters preceded her in death. Ethel attended Wilcox County High School graduating in 1953. Ethel accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and was a faithful servant at St. Paul AME Baptist Church in Camden, Alabama. Ethel took on many adventurous jobs throughout her life but the most rewarding of those was being a caregiver. With her true love and passion to serve, you could always find Ethel somewhere aiding the needs of others in service and cooking. In 1983, Ethel relocated to Marion and was a faithful member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. As a member, Ethel held many positions; choir member where her favorite songs were "Brighter Day Ahead" and "Because He Lives", Usher Board member and faithful kitchen cook serving some community favorites such as southern dressing, peach cobbler, salmon patties and hand-rolled homemade biscuits that were sure to leave an impression on your taste buds and memory. Ethel had such a vibrant spirit and zest for life. When talking with her you were sure to glean some little nuggets of knowledge to carry with you. She had a way with words and her little sayings would have you laughing and encouraged. Trust that the conversation would also be full of the wisdom of God's word as she took great joy in her salvation. The word, wisdom, laughter and encouragement - you could not lose while being in the company of Mother Campbell. The Lord called Ethel home to everlasting life on Friday, July 25, 2014.
