Emmett G Ledford Jr.

Emmett G. Ledford, Jr., age 87 of Marion, Ohio passed away on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at Grant Medical Center. He was born March 7, 1931 to the late Emmett G. Ledford Sr. and Francis Wheeler. On July 16, 1949 he married Lois Jean Ledford (Hartman). They were married until her death on March 10, 2004.

Emmett was a grocer by trade, working mostly in produce departments at A&P in Marion and then retired from Food Town in Bucyrus, Ohio. After his retirement, he volunteered his free time at local schools reading to students and helping with math wherever he was asked by his daughter, granddaughter, or teacher friends. Emmett loved the outdoors, and would spend hours sitting on his front porch, watching the birds and talking to any neighbor who drove by. He also enjoyed going to casinos to play penny slots whenever he got the chance.

He is survived by his children, Rebbeca A. Gustin (Barry), Emily L. Galloway (Kevin), and Emmett “Gary” Ledford III (Lori); five grandchildren, Ashley Gustin-Wood (Chris), Page Reefer (Matt), Tyler Ledford (Stephanie), Spencer Galloway (Sophie), and Abbey Thompson (Corey). He also leaves behind a great-grandchild, Emmett Cooper Wood.

No visitation will be held, however, there will be a graveside service at Marion Cemetery for family and friends on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at 11 o’clock AM. A luncheon at one of Emmett’s favorite restaurants, Carlyle’s, will be held immediately following.
