Earl Sutherland, age 93, of Marion, Ohio passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday morning after a series of brief illnesses. He was born November 5, 1923 and enlisted in the United States Army in April, 1943 serving as a Sergeant in the European Theater of Operations. At the end of the war, he married his sweetheart; Ruth Elizabeth Norton on Christmas Eve, 1944. They cherished 60 years of marriage until she passed away in 2005. He had worked at the Ford Motor Company in Lorain, Ohio retiring in 1984. Earl and Ruth had 9 children; 4 boys and 5 girls (in that order) and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a few great-great grandchildren. In 2009 he married Donna (Midlam) Jenkins and was residing with her at Brookdale Care Center in Marion. He has been active in Christian service his whole life, most recently serving as a Deacon at Calvary Bible Baptist Church in Marion. A celebration of Earl’s life will be celebrated on Wednesday evening by his two sons; Pastors Richard and William Sutherland. In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by two sons; Paul and John. He is survived by his wife; Donna, his sons; Richard and William and their wives and daughters; Ruthie, Carol, Peggy, Jerri and Kathy and their husbands.
