Barry Winfield, age 66, passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2022, at Marion General Hospital. He was born October 3, 1956, to Forest Winfield and Angeline Moore in Marion, Ohio.
Growing up, he was an avid roller skater, you could find him at the Hy-Way Rollerena with his siblings. In high school, he was active with the swim team. He was known for his swimming and diving abilities. He was also for his kindness, always willing to lend a helping hand. He would always ride his bike across town to visit his mom before she passed away. He didn’t care the temperature, it could be 100 degrees, he was going to see his mom. Chuck told me the story of when he and Barry were younger, they would compete as to who could wear the brightest color socks during baseball season. And how Barry would growl at the pitcher. Which lead into how Barry loved to growl at people.
He is survived by his sister Melody (Chuck Bennett) Winfield, his son Jeremy Winfield, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. His sister-in-law Shirley Winfield, stepbrother Bret Severns and stepsister Darla Severns, along with several nieces and nephews. He is survived by his very special friend Mary Sharrick. They have been friends through the good, the bad, and the ugly. Barry has always cherished Mary’s friendship. He also had many good friends he made while staying at the Embassy of Marion.
He is preceded by his parents, his stepfather Gary Severns, brother Rick Winfield, nephew Brandy Winfield, and his grandparents Elizabeth and Waldo Peddicord.
Melody would like to thank everyone who stopped in and seen Barry while he was at Embassy of Marion and in the hospital. She would like to thank everyone who donated to help pay for his final expenses.
