Annice Van de Water, 100, of Marion, Ohio, died in her sleep November 27, 2015 at Kingston Residence, following a long life. Following her wishes no services are planned. Annice was born Sept. 7, 1915, in New Orleans, a twin daughter to Bernhard and Annie Jones Berendsohn. She graduated from Schurz High School in Chicago, at that time the largest high school in the U.S. She was pleased to be named the female athlete of the year at Schurz. On April 30, 1938 in her family home she married Raymond Earl Van de Water. They settled in Marion in August 1945 and she lived in the same house until August 2005. Annice was an excellent golfer, served as Girl Scout leader for 10 years and longer on council, enjoyed playing and teaching bridge and other card games, painting, dancing, swimming, volunteering at the Senior Center, and teaching and playing golf (especially winning). She is survived by her children Judy (Jim) Cottingham of West Branch, IA; Mary of London, England; Buster (Linda) of Westerville, OH; six grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. She was the last survivor of her family generation. Annice donated her body to the Ohio State University Body Donor Program. Any memorials may be directed to the Marion Senior Center, Kingston Residence, or Prexie Play Scholarship Fund at Marion Community Foundation.
